Principal Engineer - Coatings
Essential Functions:
Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of coating materials and coating deposition technologies. Integrates and develops coating solutions and processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within the area of coating surface modifications on gas turbine components and structures for oxidation, corrosion, wear, dimensional clearances and thermal protection (Thermal Barrier Coatings, TBCs)

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $111,200.00 - 185,400.00 USD per year. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, geographic location, and skill set.
This position is also eligible for a 15% annual performance bonus. This position will stay open on the career website until at least 5/7/2025.
*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%,120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.

Principal Engineer - Coatings

This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within the area of coating surface modifications on gas turbine components and structures for oxidation, corrosion, wear, dimensional clearances and thermal protection (Thermal Barrier Coatings, TBCs)
- Identify, develop, test/evaluate, and introduce surface engineering coating solutions to meet near-term and long-range coating engineering needs for gas turbine component life cycle and performance targets.
- Provide technical consultation on gas turbine component coating related issues in terms of field performance, GEV Shop or vendor producibility, and or cost and cycle throughout the business
- Assist team with technical rigor to develop safe, high quality products while being actively engaged during design process
- Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in coating materials and coating deposition technologies in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Exercise Curiosity by striving for improved products & processes to support customers
- Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
- Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
- Be a Helpful resource to all levels of engineering team and encourage dialogue between all groups
- Knowledge and experience with various coating deposition processes and equipment such as: air plasma spray (APS), suspension plasma spray (SPS), high velocity oxygen-fuel (HVOF), high velocity air-fuel (HVAF), cold spray or kinetic metallization.
- Experience with coating materials for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), environmental barrier coatings (EBCs), oxidation/corrosion coatings, diffusion aluminides, cobalt and nickel-based wear coatings.
- Experience and ability test set-up standard industry coating performance thermal and environmental test along with GE Vernova unique in-house tests for coatings.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity

- Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
- Problem analysis and resolution skills
