Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Kafka Subject Matter Expert with extensive hands-on experience in designing and implementing Kafka event streaming architectures in hybrid multi-cloud environments. The ideal candidate must demonstrate practical, real-world experience in Kafka ecosystem design, deployment, integration, troubleshooting, and governance-not just theoretical knowledge or training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing Kafka event streaming capabilities in applications and infrastructure across hybrid multi-cloud environments.
- Producing IT technical artifacts with an emphasis on Kafka event streams, including design documents, architecture diagrams, architecture assessments, white papers, test plans, requirements mapping, and implementation plans.
- In-depth knowledge of Kafka implementation design principles and applicable use cases for migrating applications from legacy to modern architectures using Event Streams and Async APIs.
- Demonstrable expertise in:
- Apache Kafka, Confluent Platform, Confluent Cloud.
- Apache Strimzi, Confluent for Kubernetes.
- Cloud services with Kafka API compatibility (e.g., Azure Event Hub, Amazon MSK).
- Confluent Schema Registry with JSON and AVRO serialization.
- Kafka replication options such as Mirror Maker, Confluent Cluster Linking, and Schema Linking.
- Confluent Identity Management and RBAC integration with enterprise IDP systems.
- Kafka Client APIs (Producer, Consumer, Streams).
- Kafka Connect and Connectors (e.g., JDBC, Cassandra, Google BigQuery, WebSphere MQ).
- Kafka cluster sizing and capacity planning.
- Kafka topic partitioning strategies, including partition key design.
- Experience integrating Kafka event streams with Agentic AI workflows.
- Familiarity with design patterns for scalable and maintainable application/solution development.
- Strong documentation skills for code, models, and technical solutions.
- Proficiency in Generative AI and prompt engineering.
- Continuous learning and adaptability within large IT organizations.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and executive stakeholders.
- Expertise in troubleshooting software and technical implementations within large-scale enterprise ecosystems.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts, containerization, and deployment strategies for Kafka components in production environments.
- Proficiency in querying and managing SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Proficiency creating technical diagrams using Microsoft Visio or Draw.io.
- Experience creating technical design and architecture documentation in Microsoft Word.
- Skilled in building business and technical presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Ability to create data visualizations, charts, and reports using Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
- Provide analysis support to integrate new Kafka cluster and event stream requirements into existing large-scale production enterprise architectures.
- Conduct design and architecture assessments and deliver written recommendations for Kafka event stream integration within application domains or enterprise event brokering.
- Troubleshoot production Kafka event streams and software integration issues, including performance analysis and proposing resolutions.
- Research and provide written reviews of Kafka ecosystem best practices and innovative hybrid multi-cloud high availability strategies.
- Conduct proof of concept (PoC) activities and build prototypes for Kafka technology stack components in sandbox environments.
- Define and implement standards and patterns for Kafka ecosystem life cycle, test-driven protection schemes, and automated implementation strategies.
- Develop strategies and roadmaps for enterprise-wide expansion of Kafka ecosystem capabilities, integrations, and governance.
- Provide strategy and compliance reviews and recommendations for enterprise Kafka ecosystem elements, including architecture frameworks, databases, network, web and application resources, backup/recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, patch management, and analytics.
