The Product System Quality team is responsible for the functional safety firmware verification for Apple products. From sensors to algorithms, this team ensures that safety and an Apple-quality experience are built into every product. This is a newly forming team, with lots of opportunities to set direction and expand scope. You will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting directly with development teams as well as Product Safety Engineering. Description We are seeking a skilled Embedded Software Engineer in Test to join our team. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability and safety of embedded systems in real-time multicore environments. You will develop and maintain tests used for safety-critical verification. Additionally, you will develop and maintain verification pipelines and traceability reporting toolchains to support both development and certification of safety-critical applications. This position requires both test development and infrastructure skills and will directly contribute to certification and first customer ship of new products. Core responsibilities include: - Creating test plans to verify requirements - Creating and maintain automated tests - Triaging test and test fixture failures - Working closely with software developers, hardware engineers, and system architecta - Demonstrating strong bug reporting and clear communication with management and multi-functional teams - Implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated testing - Integrating with build systems to ensure efficient test execution and full traceability to requirements and source code - Conducting in peer code reviews, design discussions, and test planning - Supporting compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements - Maintaining a detail-oriented approach and focus on establishing and following processes - Contributing to the organization's culture of safety

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Programming experience with C/C++, Python, and Shell scripting
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in software testing, preferably in a functional safety area
  • Strong understanding of software test and verification methodologies
  • Experience with developing, testing, and debugging device drivers, firmware, other low-level software, embedded systems, or sensors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Solid OS fundamentals
  • Proficiency in functional safety standards (DO-178, ISO 26262, IEC 60730, etc)
  • Experience with HIL/SIL testing platforms
  • Familiarity with NXP toolchains and development environments
  • Experience with debugging tools (Lauterbach, Segger, or similar)

Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
