Payroll Associate
Location: Southborough, MA
Reports To: VP – Finance
Work Arrangement: This is an in-office, temporary position
The hours would be at least 30 hours per week.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Payroll & Compliance Associate to join our Finance team. This role will focus on handling payroll tax notices, coordinating with government agencies, payroll providers, and offshore teams, while also managing all incoming mail and supporting ad hoc finance projects.
What You’ll Do
- Review and resolve payroll tax and compliance notices.
- Research root causes, work with state/federal agencies, payroll providers, and offshore payroll teams to resolve issues.
- Draft and submit timely responses to agencies.
- Open, sort, scan, and distribute all incoming mail; organize and maintain filing systems.
- Provide updates to leadership and support ad hoc projects assigned by the VP Finance.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1+ year of experience in payroll, compliance, finance operations, or related function.
- Excellent communication skills – confident and professional with government agencies and external providers.
- Strong research and problem-solving ability to resolve notices efficiently.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Nice to Have:
- Experience with payroll providers (ADP, Paychex, etc.).
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll or compliance processes.
- Prior experience working with offshore/global teams.
