Role Overview

We re looking for a Systems Engineer to join a technical operations team responsible for maintaining reliable enterprise environments and enhancing automation for long-term scalability.

This role involves a blend of system monitoring, troubleshooting, patching, and supporting platform upgrades across Linux, AIX, and DB2-based environments. It s an ideal role for someone with a broad technical foundation who enjoys building efficiencies, standardizing processes, and working collaboratively in a fast-moving environment. Must-Have Skills

These competencies are essential for success in this role:

  • Hands-on experience with Linux (preferably RHEL) or AIX systems administration
  • Working knowledge of DB2 (upgrades, troubleshooting, backups, or performance monitoring)
  • Ability to create or support automation scripts (Python strongly preferred)
  • General understanding of Microsoft technologies (Windows systems, admin basics, tooling)
  • A well-rounded technical skill set candidates should not be specialized only in one area
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment
  • Not aligned to candidates who are primarily network engineers

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience supporting OS upgrades or patch lifecycles
  • Familiarity with virtualization or cloud environments
  • Understanding of server security, storage, or enterprise IT fundamentals
  • Any Linux/AIX/DB2-related certifications (RHCE, IBM Admin, AIX Cert, DBE)
  • Exposure to enterprise application environments

Key Responsibilities

System Reliability & Monitoring

  • Support day-to-day health checks across Linux and AIX systems
  • Review database activity and assist with DB2 performance monitoring
  • Participate in incident response and basic troubleshooting

Upgrades & Patching

  • Assist with OS and application patching cycles
  • Help validate post-upgrade behavior and document changes
  • Work with senior engineers to implement security updates

Automation & Standardization

  • Contribute to scripts that streamline monitoring, maintenance, or routine workflows
  • Help build process consistency across operational tasks
  • Maintain and update internal documentation, SOPs, and system notes

Continuity & Support Operations

  • Participate in planned disaster recovery exercises
  • Support documentation related to recovery procedures
  • Collaborate closely with infrastructure and operations teams to ensure reliable services

Who Shouldn t Apply

  • Are focused mainly on network engineering rather than systems
  • Want a narrow, siloed role instead of a broad engineering mix
  • Prefer remote or hybrid work (this is fully onsite)
  • Do not have foundational experience with Linux/AIX, DB2, or Python scripting
