Title: Associate Consultant Utilities Sector
Location: Phoenix, AZ Type: Long-term contract

We are seeking a motivated and analytically driven Associate Consultant to support senior consulting staff in delivering strategic and technical solutions to clients in the utility industry. This position is focused on the power systems side, working with teams that monitor utility operations 24/7 and manage large-scale construction and infrastructure projects.

You will work closely with a senior consultant to assist in client engagements, forecasting and planning, strategy development, and implementation support. In addition to actively executing projects, there are opportunities to support strategic development and contribute to 3-, 5-, and 10-year roadmaps that shape the future of utility operations.


Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand business challenges and deliver solutions in the utility industry, with emphasis on power systems operations.


  • Act as a trusted partner by listening deeply, asking thoughtful questions, and demonstrating genuine curiosity about the utility business.

Support long-range forecasting, planning, and strategy development for utility projects, balancing day-to-day operational needs with future infrastructure demands.

Support project planning, execution, and documentation, including presentations and technical reports.

Assist with major initiatives such as:


  • Transmission Operations Roadmap (multi-year strategic planning and execution of projects while team maintains grid reliability).
  • Digital Transformation Program (modernizing equipment and integrating new processing technologies to improve communication and safety).
  • Workforce Improvement Project (enhancing scheduling, reducing strain on substation teams, and improving workforce efficiency).

Engage directly with engineers, vendors, and leadership to gather insights, identify priorities, and manage project dependencies.

Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies.

Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Contribute to internal knowledge-building and practice development efforts.

Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial) or a related technical discipline.

1 3 years of professional experience, preferably in utilities, energy, infrastructure, or consulting.

Emotional intelligence and ability to read the room patient, observant, and comfortable listening without always needing to provide immediate answers.

Technical mindset with strong systems-thinking ability

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, client-focused environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice to Have

Experience in consulting, project management, or business strategy.

Background in network design, systems engineering, or customer-service oriented technical roles.

Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, or similar methodologies.
