Sr. SQL Server DBA
GavinHeath is partnering with a client in Aurora, CO looking to add a Sr. SQL Server DBA to their team. The role is a direct hire position. This is a remote position, preferably in the Denver Metro Area.
The Senior Database Administrator role will be responsible for the operational management of database systems, with a strong focus on SQL Server. This role will be responsible for delivering secure, high-performing, and highly available database environments, both legacy SQL server and cloud database services. The individual will guide modernization initiatives, cloud migrations, disaster recovery design, and ongoing database performance optimization. The individual must be able to balance competing priorities, including project deadlines and incident response. This is a hands-on technical role, ensuring the effective support of enterprise systems and cross functional collaboration with AppDev, Security, and Data teams.
Database Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, upgrade, and manage SQL Server and other database platforms.
- Proactively monitor and maintain database systems for availability and performance.
- Monitor replication, scheduled jobs, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure environment reliability via regular database maintenance, patching, and upgrades.
- Forecast and plan system capacity to meet evolving demands and provisioning for system growth and performance
- Oversee successful third-party database deployments.
- Utilize Agile and Scrum methodologies to manage and deliver projects efficiently.
- Ensure proper data protection strategies through backup and recovery solutions
- Analyze and optimize the performance of views, stored procedures, and queries.
- Develop and maintain scripts to automate operational tasks and enhance system health.
- Plan and execute database migrations to enhance performance and scalability.
Strategic Oversight and Architecture
- Drive initiatives for cloud modernization and scalability, using tools such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database.
- Plan and support database security in alignment with enterprise security standards.
- Design and implement disaster recovery (DR), backup, and restore strategies in cloud and hybrid environments, with understanding of RTO/RPO concepts.
Support and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide database support to Application Development, Data Services, and Infrastructure teams.
- Respond to ad hoc data requests (e.g., audit trails, custom reports).
- Excellent problem-solving, diagnostic, and analytical skills.
- Effective communicator with cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and competing demands.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 6+ years of experience as a Database Administrator (preferably SQL Server).
- 3+ years of experience with cloud-based data solutions in production (preferably multi-cloud environments).
