What you'll do:

The Technical Product Manager (TPM) for the M365 Data Platform Exit Strategy will own the strategic planning, technical requirements, and phased execution roadmap for migrating core organizational data and metadata out of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (including SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive) to a new, designated target platform. This role is highly technical, demanding deep expertise in M365 data analysis to define the "what," "when," and "how" of this large-scale data transformation while minimizing impact on business continuity.

  • Product Strategy & Vision (M365 Exit)
  • Define the Target State: Work with Engineering and Architecture teams to define the product requirements and data model for the new target platform based on current M365 data structures and future business needs.
  • Roadmap Ownership: Develop and maintain a multi-phase data migration and retirement roadmap, including detailed timelines, risk assessment, and dependency mapping for M365 components.
  • Success Metrics: Define clear success criteria (e.g., data fidelity, migration velocity,M365 tenant usage reduction, user adoption rate of the new platform) and track progress against them.
  • M365 Data Analysis & Requirements
  • Data Deep Dive: Lead the effort to analyze the full scope of data within M365 using advanced tools. This includes assessing:
  • Total volume, file types, age, and modification patterns.
  • Complex governance metadata (e.g., site permissions, retention policies, sensitivity labels).
  • Usage patterns for active vs. dormant sites/groups to inform cleanup and retirement strategy.
  • Tooling & Automation: Define requirements for migration tools (internal or third-party) and automation scripts (using PowerShell or Graph API) to ensure accurate extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data.
  • Functional Requirements: Translate detailed data analysis findings into clear, executable technical requirements and user stories for engineering teams, focusing specifically on data mapping and reconciliation needs.
  • Execution & Stakeholder Management
  • Technical Leadership: Act as the primary interface between business operations, legal/compliance, and the development teams performing the migration work.
  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and manage risks related to data loss, compliance issues, and service disruption during migration phases.
  • User Transition: Oversee the user communication and training plan to facilitate a smooth cutover from M365 tools to the new platform, focusing on change management for affected teams.

What you know

  • 5+ years of experience in Technical Product Management or a similar technical leadership role.
  • Mandatory deep technical experience with Microsoft 365 data analysis, including extensive use of:
  • M365 Admin Center and Security/Compliance Center to understand policies.
  • PowerShell (PnP, Exchange Online, etc.) and the Microsoft Graph API for bulk data extraction, analysis, and permission reporting.
  • Tools like eDiscovery and Content Search to analyze data residency and compliance status.
  • Proven experience planning and executing large-scale, enterprise-level data migrations or platform transformation projects.
  • Exceptional data analysis and modeling skills, capable of structuring complex, unstructured data (like documents and site libraries) into a clean, structured schema.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical challenges and their business impact to executive stakeholders.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with third-party M365 migration tools (e.g., ShareGate, AvePoint, Metalogix).
  • Familiarity with enterprise compliance and data governance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Experience with the target platform's architecture (e.g., Azure Data Lake, AWS S3, or specific ECM/DMS solutions).

Education

  • Bachelor's in computer science or equivalent experience
