Our client is a national retailer undergoing rapid expansion, building out modern data platforms to support aggressive growth initiatives. They’re opening a new Phoenix headquarters in 2025, investing heavily in enterprise data modernization, and scaling multiple strategic delivery teams across retail, supply chain, merchandising, and omnichannel operations.
Role Overview
The Data Engineer II will join the Enterprise Data Management team, supporting both day-to-day production needs and strategic data modernization projects. This is a mid-level engineering role perfect for someone who is strong in SQL and the Microsoft stack, eager to build broader data engineering skills, and excited about contributing to large, enterprise-level transformations.
This position begins with hands-on support and quickly evolves into net-new pipeline development, ETL modernization, and integration work across multiple business domains.
Core Responsibilities
Initial Focus (Months 0–6)
Handle production support tickets (~80% initially).
Troubleshoot and optimize SQL + SSIS data pipelines.
Learn existing data flows, systems, and business processes.
Long-Term Responsibilities
Build and maintain ETL pipelines (SSIS, Informatica Cloud depending on pattern).
Develop integrations supporting major initiatives like POS replatforming, MDM (Syndigo), and supply chain modernization.
Create and support data marts, BI layers, and data movement pipelines across the enterprise.
Work cross-functionally with product, retail, supply chain, and solution architects.
Participate in design discussions, requirements gathering, and sprint planning.
Contribute to overall data platform improvement and data governance modernization.

Ideal Candidate Profile
3+ years working with SQL + Microsoft data technologies.
Strong SQL fundamentals; comfortable designing and optimizing data pipelines.
Experience with SSIS or similar ETL tools.
Thrives in fast-moving environments and enjoys tackling a wide range of data movement problems.
Curious, adaptable, and motivated to grow into an architect-level engineer over time.
Local or willing to be onsite in Phoenix as hybrid becomes mandatory (Tue–Thu return-to-office next year).
Work Environment
Current Hybrid: Teams meet onsite every two weeks for sprint planning; optional in-office outside those cadences.
2025: Expected Tue/Wed/Thu onsite when new HQ opens.
