Overview
We re seeking an experienced Ciena Systems Test Engineer to support end-to-end system testing in a network-replicated testbed environment. This role focuses on validating new hardware and software in real-world conditions using Ciena s SAOS10 platform. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with deep experience in Ciena technologies and network system validation.
Key Responsibilities
Perform holistic system testing that replicates network environments from premise to premise not simple box testing.
Develop, execute, and document detailed test plans and MOPs (Methods of Procedure).
Configure and maintain testbeds, including running fiber connections and mapping circuits.
Conduct inbay testing in environments designed to simulate full network deployment scenarios.
Install and integrate new hardware and software into existing test environments.
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams to triage, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for testing, results, and configuration changes.
Support continuous improvement through best practices and automation where applicable.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of direct experience with Ciena technologies, specifically SAOS10.
Hands-on experience with the following Ciena product lines: 3903, 3926, 5164, 5170, and 3948.
Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking.
Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans in a live or simulated production environment.
Solid understanding of MOP creation and execution, and technical documentation best practices.
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with DWDM/ROADM (not required).
Experience using JIRA for test tracking and defect management.
Prior experience in roles such as Sales Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Test Engineer.
Knowledge of automation, scripting, or network test tools (e.g., Spirent, Viavi, IXIA).
