Position Overview

The Engineering Lab Supervisor is a multifaceted role that is responsible for overseeing all laboratory and machine shop operations, ensuring that engineering experiments, precision, and adherence to safety and quality standards. This role requires strong technical expertise in manufacturing and machining processes, coupled with proven leadership skills to manage personnel, equipment, and workflows. This position plays a critical part in supporting innovation, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and enabling the successful execution of engineering projects across the organization.

Essential Job Functions
  • Supervision: Manage daily operations of the engineering laboratory and machine shop, including scheduling, staff oversight, and resource allocation.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all lab and shop activities adhere to safety regulations and protocols; conduct regular safety audits and training.
  • Project Management: Collaborate with engineers and researchers to plan, execute, and monitor lab experiments and projects. Lead process development efforts related to raw materials and new technologies.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee maintenance, calibration, and repair of lab and machine shop equipment and instruments.
  • Budget Management: Assist in developing and managing the lab budget. Identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensure efficient resource utilization.
  • Training and Development: Mentor and train lab staff and interns, promoting professional growth and technical skills enhancement.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure accuracy and reliability of experimental data and results.
  • Technology and Strategy: Stay current on engineering strategies and trends to ensure the lab and machine shop support evolving business needs efficiently.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in product/process development withing a regulated industry, preferably in the Medical Device field.
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering lab environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver on time.
  • Ability to execute testing, provide technical support, and collaborate effectively with engineering teams with minimal supervision .
  • Strong knowledge of lab and machine shop safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory software and technical equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • A team-oriented and customer-focused mindset.
  • Strong technical understanding of lab and machine shop tools, equipment, and processes.
  • Basic financial acumen to support business case development and execution.

Additional Information:
  • The anticipated base pay for this position is $89,000 - $142,600 annually.
  • The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year
    • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
