AutoCAD Engineer Hybrid work schedule. On-Site location in either Springfield, VA or Tysons, VA Must be able to pass Federal Background Check Long Term Contract
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Experienced AutoCAD Engineers access control experience, with a strong background in facilities security systems to support the design and documentation of physical security infrastructure, including CCTV, Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), and related components. The ideal candidate will have experience in producing detailed design drawings, equipment layouts, and wiring diagrams that support the installation and integration of security technologies into new and existing facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the with design and development of physical access control systems
Develop and maintain AutoCAD drawings and documentation for security system installations including CCTV and PACS
Create detailed floor plans, wiring schematics, conduit layouts, and device location drawings
Collaborate with security engineers, integrators, and facility stakeholders to develop design packages
Incorporate system specifications and physical layout requirements into technical drawings
Interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans to ensure accurate placement of security devices
Maintain drawing standards and documentation version control for all projects
Update as-built drawings based on completed installations and field markups
Ensure designs adhere to applicable security regulations, safety codes, and client requirements
Support project planning and construction efforts by preparing design submittals and review documentation
Required Qualifications:
Associate s or Bachelor s degree in Engineering, Drafting, Architecture, or a related technical field; or equivalent work experience needed. Equivalent experience or technical certification can be substituted for formal education.
7+ years of experience using AutoCAD in a security systems or facilities design environment
Working knowledge of CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection systems
Experience with device placement strategies, cable routing, and system schematics
Familiarity with physical security standards (e.g., UL 2050, FIPS 201, or similar)
Ability to read and interpret construction documents and technical specifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting government, data center, or critical infrastructure facilities
Knowledge of security system integration practices and network connectivity
Familiarity with tools like Revit, Bluebeam, or Visio
Certifications such as PSP (Physical Security Professional), CPP (Certified Protection Professional), or similar
Familiarity with federal or industry-specific security regulations and compliance requirements
Key Skills:
Strong attention to detail and spatial accuracy
Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D preferred)
Excellent communication and technical writing skills
Ability to manage multiple design packages and deadlines
Team-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities
