We have an exciting opportunity for a FSL Linux Systems Administrator to join the team with Nexus, a teammate company.

The FSL Linux Systems Administrator will:
  • This position, working on the Amentum JETS contract, will support the Flight Sciences Laboratory (FSL).
  • The FSL is one of JSC's primary computing labs and hosts a wide variety of analyses, which support almost all the major programs at JSC including the International Space Station (ISS), Orion, Space Launch System (SLS), Commercial Crew Program, Lunar Gateway, Human Landing System (HLS), and many others. The FSL systems are currently comprised of over 900 machines, 25,000 cores and 3 PB of storage, which serve over 600 users.
  • In this position you will be working with a team of Systems Administrators to build and maintain all FSL services. This can include HPC administration, high-end Linux workstation administration, high-speed networking, parallel filesystem administration, and more.
  • The FSL System Administration Team is critical in supporting the FSL users in effectively utilizing the systems. The team's day to day tasks include investigating system problems, proactively monitoring system health, and working with FSL lab users to make sure they can support the NASA human spaceflight mission.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent certification in a related area and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • 1 year in any IT-related field.
  • Utilizing a Linux OS - We utilize a Red Hat-based OS, but if your experience is with a different Linux OS that is fine.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving experience.
  • Demonstrated task planning, and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience assisting others with IT-related issues.
  • Experience working in a team environment.

    • Configuration management software (ansible, puppet)
    • Lustre Parallel Filesystems
    • InfiniBand
    • Containerization using Singularity or similar technology
    • Monitoring and alerting
    • SLURM resource manager
    • SPACK software manager
    • Log consolidation and monitoring
    • Git/Gitlab and software development (CI/CD)
  • Johnson Space Center campus network
  • NASA security mechanisms (security plans, POAMs, ATOs, Risk Assessments)

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
