Summary

This vacancy is for a GS-0802-07-08-09-10-11, Electrical Engineering Technician located in the Office of Naval Engineering, Engineering Division, Electrical/Electronic Branch, U.S. Coast Guard Yard, Baltimore, MD.

Duties

Help

You will serve as an Electrical Engineering Technician and be responsible for work on projects and assist other members of the branch. Frequent travel is required, as is the ability to work in a shipyard or on board a ship or boat.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Works with systems, plants, equipment, and materials for the generation, transmission, conversion, distribution, control, measurement, or utilization of electrical energy on board Coast Guard ships and boats.
  • Works with portraying engineering and architectural ideas and information through drawings.
  • Uses engineering knowledge to develop layouts and sketches for the installation, modification, or replacement of systems.
  • Completes design for installation, modification or replacement of shipboard equipment.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above):

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

To qualify at the GS-7 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Experience working with systems, plants, equipment, and materials for the generation, transmission, conversion, distribution, control, measurement, or utilization of electrical energy on board of ships and boats.
  • Experience supporting management and completion of TCTO, design, production or other projects as directed.
  • Experience developing Bills of Material for system or equipment installation.

To qualify at the GS-8 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Experience with portraying engineering and architectural ideas and information through drawings.
  • Experience providing input to estimate projects using detail methods.
  • Experience developing Bills of Material for system or equipment installation.

To qualify at the GS-9 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Experience working with design for installation, modification or replacement of shipboard systems, plants, equipment and materials for the generation, transmission, conversion, distribution, control, measurement or utilization of electrical energy.
  • Experience managing and competing TCTO, design, production or other projects as directed.
  • Experience developing Formal Procurement process procurement packages for systems and equipment.

To qualify at the GS-10 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Experience working with systems, plants, equipment, and materials for the generation, transmission, conversion, distribution, control, measurement, or utilization of electrical energy on board Coast Guard ships and boats.
  • Experience managing and completing TCTO, design, production or other projects as directed.
  • Experience developing Simplified Acquisition Procurement process packages for systems and equipment.

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Experience completing design for installation, modification or replacement of shipboard systems, plants, equipment and materials for the generation, transmission, conversion, distribution, control, measurement or utilization of electrical energy.
  • Experience managing and completing TCTO, design, production or other projects as directed.
  • Developing Formal Procurement Process procurement packages for systems and equipment.
