Hardware Test Engineer - Amazon Project Kuiper
Location: Redmond, WA
Team: Satellite Gateway & RF/Modem Development
About Project Kuiper
Amazon's Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites that will provide broadband connectivity to underserved communities around the world. As part of this ambitious mission, we are seeking a Hardware Test Engineer to join our fast-paced and innovative team.
Role Overview
As a Hardware Test Engineer, you will be responsible for executing and supporting environmental and RF hardware test campaigns for space-grade systems. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to maintain and calibrate test equipment, develop automation features, and ensure the reliability of mission-critical components.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental & RF Testing
Execute environmental test campaigns including shock, vibration, thermal, and thermal vacuum (TVAC)
Conduct HALT, ALT, and HASS campaigns to assess hardware reliability
Maintain and calibrate test equipment and racks to ensure readiness
Handle RF/microwave components and perform RF measurements using tools like spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and vector network analyzers
Support commissioning of test racks and debug hardware failures in collaboration with engineering teams
Generate and deliver detailed test reports to internal stakeholders
Test Automation Development
Collaborate with internal automation leads to enhance test rack capabilities
Develop software infrastructure for automated test execution using Python
Integrate tools such as NI TestStand and Keysight OpenTAP
Enable automated data collection and analysis
Utilize version control systems (Git, SVN) for software management
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Hands-on experience with environmental testing and RF hardware
Proficiency with RF test equipment and handling of space-grade components
Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with Windows/Linux environments
Experience with test automation frameworks and version control tools
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in aerospace or satellite hardware testing
Familiarity with HALT/HASS methodologies
Knowledge of power supplies and advanced RF measurement techniques
Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
