Title: Mainframe Developer
Boston, MA
Job Description:
We are seeking a Mainframe Developer who is passionate about driving technical solutions, leading development teams, and modernizing legacy systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in mainframe technologies and a strong understanding of design, development, migration, modernization, and integration strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and test mainframe applications in COBOL, PL/I, Natural, ADABAS, IMS/IDMS, and DB2.
Perform code review and reverse engineering of mainframe applications.
Gather requirements and specifications to translate business needs into system requirements and technical solutions.
Guide the development team in utilizing COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, DB2, SQL, IMS, and other mainframe technologies.
Provide technical expertise and mentorship in mainframe programming languages such as COBOL, PL/I, Natural, ADABAS, and BMS.
Ensure best practices in batch processing, scheduling, and version control using tools like ChangeMan or Endeavor.
Evaluate modernization strategies for legacy systems using market-leading reverse engineering and forward engineering tools.
Hands-on experience with Topaz IDE, Topaz for Total Test, SonarQube, Jenkins, and relevant CI/CD tools for the mainframe environment.
Collaborate with stakeholders to estimate workloads and provide accurate project timelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in mainframe application development and modernization.
7+ years in a technical lead role, overseeing mainframe migration projects.
Strong expertise in TSO/ISPF, XPEDITOR, QMF, FILEAID, SORT utilities, and other mainframe debugging tools.
Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, Topaz, SonarQube, and other modern development tools.
Proven experience with batch processing frameworks and tools for scheduling.
