Position: Observability Engineer (Dynatrace Deployment & Integration)
Location: Phoenix, AZ (REMOTE)
Summary:
- The Observability Engineer will support the Enterprise Monitoring Team in deploying and optimizing Dynatrace platform capabilities
- The Observability Engineer will play a critical role in transitioning from the existing monitoring toolset, onboarding applications and infrastructure, as well as enabling full observability to enhance operational insights and reliability using Dynatrace SaaS and Managed instances
- Hands-on experience with implementing Dynatrace is highly preferred
- This position is Remote with occasional travel to Phoenix, AZ
Responsibilities:
Dynatrace Platform Deployment & Configuration
- Deploy, configure, and optimize Dynatrace OneAgent, ActiveGate, and extensions
- Implement infrastructure and application observability for managed, cloud, and hybrid environments
- Migrate applications, services, and monitoring workflows from legacy tools to Dynatrace
- Enable distributed tracing, log analytics, real-user monitoring (RUM), and synthetic monitoring
- Develop and configure custom alerting, anomaly detection, and automated remediation workflows to improve operational efficiency
Application & Infrastructure Onboarding
- Partner with application teams, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to onboard services into Dynatrace
- Define and implement best practices for log ingestion, metrics processing, tagging strategies, alerting, and dashboards
- Work with developers, SREs, and platform engineers to integrate observability into CI/CD pipelines
- Shift monitoring from reactive to proactive, utilizing Dynatrace AI and auto-discovery capabilities to anticipate potential issues before they impact performance
Enterprise Monitoring Transformation
- Assess the current state of monitoring, identifying gaps and opportunities for Dynatrace adoption
- Develop and implement standardized observability practices for enterprise-wide use
- Assist in deprecating legacy monitoring tools, ensuring a smooth transition to Dynatrace
- Train internal teams on Dynatrace capabilities and best practices
Performance Optimization & Incident Management
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and performance tuning leveraging Dynatrace AI insights
- Optimize alerting thresholds and incident response workflows to reduce noise and false positives
- Integrate Dynatrace with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) for automated incident resolution
- Support proactive capacity planning using historical performance trends
Dashboarding, Reporting & Business Insights
- Build custom dashboards and executive reports showcasing real-time observability insights
- Provide recommendations for improving business service availability and reliability
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and service-level objectives (SLOs) based on monitoring data
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with implementing Dynatrace or similar observability platforms (AppDynamics, New Relic, Splunk)
- Hands-on experience migrating from legacy monitoring tools (Splunk, New Relic, AppDynamics, SolarWinds, Nagios)
- Strong knowledge of cloud and containerized environments (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Expertise in SRE and DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipeline integration with observability
- Proficiency in ITSM & Incident Management tools (ServiceNow, Jira, PagerDuty)
- Scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, or Bash for monitoring automation
- Experience working in large enterprise environments with a focus on IT operations and performance monitoring
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Dynatrace Certification (Professional or Associate level) is preferred
- Knowledge of infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible) is preferred
- Experience with AIOps or ML-driven anomaly detection for advanced proactive monitoring is preferred
- Bachelor s Degree is preferred; equivalent real-world work experience will be considered
- Information Technology/Utilities/Energy/Oil & Gas industry experience is preferred
