Role Overview:
The OCI Data Architect is responsible for designing and implementing scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This role involves leveraging OCI’s data services, implementing modern data architectures like the Medallion Architecture, and ensuring robust integration and governance frameworks. Experience in the utility industry is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Architecture & Strategy
• Design and implement cloud-native data architectures using OCI services.
• Develop scalable data pipelines and storage solutions for structured and unstructured data.
• Lead the adoption of Medallion Architecture:
o Bronze Layer: Raw data ingestion using OCI Streaming and Data Integration.
o Silver Layer: Cleaned and enriched data stored in Autonomous Data Warehouse or Object Storage.
o Gold Layer: Curated, business-ready datasets for analytics and reporting via Oracle Analytics Cloud.
2. OCI Data Services Expertise
• Architect and manage solutions using:
o Autonomous Database (TP, DW, JSON)
o Oracle Exadata Database Service
o MySQL HeatWave
o OCI NoSQL Database
o OCI Data Flow (Apache Spark)
o OCI Data Integration
o OCI Data Catalog
o OCI GoldenGate
o OCI Streaming
o OCI Search with OpenSearch
o OCI Data Safe
o OCI Object Storage
3. Integration Patterns
• Inbound Integration:
o Real-time and batch ingestion using OCI Streaming, GoldenGate, and Data Integration.
o External data source integration via Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), REST/SOAP APIs, and OCI API Gateway.
• Outbound Integration:
o Data sharing with downstream systems using Data Integration, GoldenGate, and Autonomous Database REST APIs.
o Support for external analytics platforms and data exports.
4. Audit, Balance, and Control (ABC) Framework
• Implement ABC frameworks to ensure:
o Audit: Logging and traceability using OCI Logging and Data Catalog.
o Balance: Reconciliation mechanisms for data consistency.
o Control: Data quality checks, exception handling, and alerting via OCI Monitoring and Alarms.
5. Governance & Security
• Enforce data governance using OCI Data Catalog and Data Safe.
• Implement RBAC, encryption, and data masking.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
6. Collaboration & Leadership
• Partner with Data Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Business teams.
• Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in cloud data architecture.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years in data architecture roles, with 3+ years on OCI.
• Strong experience with cloud-native data services and integration tools.
• Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and data modeling.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), Oracle Data Integration Services, Oracle CC&B knowledge
• Familiarity with Oracle Analytics Cloud, Fusion Data Intelligence, and Oracle Machine Learning.
• Agile/SCRUM experience.
• Utility industry experience is a strong plus, especially in areas like smart metering, grid analytics, asset management, and regulatory reporting.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
