Description:
The Interface Engineer will play a critical role in the development and design of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs) for Command and Control Systems. This position involves establishing new interfaces between external elements, such as sensors, and other systems, ensuring compliance with program standards. The Interface Engineer will also develop behavioral diagrams to document and understand requirements, and will be responsible for maintaining and updating multiple ICDs and IDDs.

Location: Full-time/Onsite at Huntsville, AL or Colorado Springs, CO

Security Clearance: Secret required

Pay Rate: $115,000 - $130,000

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the authoring and design of ICDs and IDDs, ensuring compliance with program standards.
  • Establish new interfaces between external elements and Command and Control Systems.
  • Develop behavioral diagrams to analyze and document requirements.
  • Attend interface working group meetings with external MDA customers and engineering representatives.
  • Support program integration and test efforts related to interfaces.
  • Collaborate with other Interface Engineers on developing ICDs for other Missile Defense Systems Elements.
  • Support requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks.
  • Assist leadership, developers, and testers with questions regarding messages and interface rules.
  • Ensure high-quality delivery of products and artifacts in accordance with the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).

Experience Requirements:
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a seasoned systems engineering team.
  • Extensive experience in authoring Missile Defense System ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable.
  • Strong background in creating complex Command and Control (C2) system ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable.
  • Solid foundation in computer programming principles for effective communication with software development teams.
  • Strong grasp of Systems Engineering processes and principles with a proven record of applying these concepts.
  • Experience in requirements elicitation using behavior diagrams.
  • Expertise in interface engineering, including authoring ICDs and IDDs covering:
    • Message definition, processing rules, and formatting (e.g., XML, VMF)
    • Physical and network specifications and models (including the ISO/OSI model)
    • Network topologies, devices, and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with IBM Rational DOORS or similar requirements management tools is highly desirable.

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of experience, or
  • Master's Degree and 7 years of experience
