THE ROLE:

In this role, you will develop strategic vision and roadmap for firmware and software methodology and practices for AMD's GPUs and CPUs and APUs. You will establish best-practices across a geographically spread teams and interact with hardware, firmware and software architects to guide next-gen GPU/CPU/APU designs and execute commercial programs for DC, Server, Client and Embedded Business Unit(s) in an SFA (System FW Architect) capacity.

THE PERSON:

You have demonstrated expertise in firmware and software engineering and have led CPU and GPU design and engineering teams. You possess leadership skills to collaborate with and influence cross functional teams, customers and internal stakeholders. You are detail-oriented, a problem solver, communicate effectively to different audiences, and work optimally with different teams across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Own, lead, and execute CPU/APU/GPU programs as an SFA
  • Lead firmware core team(s), responsible for all aspects of Firmware Architecture including, documentation and translation of low-level hardware controls into a well-defined software architecture that will be used for firmware implementation and development
  • Provide consultation and guidance to internal and external customers regarding AMD features and programming requirements
    • Meet with customers and partners to ensure requirements are understood, implementations are sound, and the broader ecosystem is moving to meet the future opportunities
    • Collaborate with open-source communities
    • Work cross-functionally to identify and assess technical issues/risks while proactively developing solutions to achieve product requirements while working a complex set of technical issues
    • Manage changes to requirements and lead negotiations between the BU and the design team to reach win-win solutions
    • You will work closely with PMO to define and drive architecture scoping initiatives, feature assessments and schedule feasibility

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Significant experience in firmware development including pre- and post silicon
  • Deep understanding of general RTOS concepts including Secure RTOS understanding
  • Expert level knowledge of embedded FW development best practices and expert level C and/or C++ language programing. Experience with RUST programming language is a definite plus
  • Knowledge of memory and I/O management, AXI/USB/I2C and other buss' protocols. Low-level ISA (LXn, RISC-V, ARM, x86, and real-time application performance optimization preferred
  • Strong understanding of multi-processing architectures and techniques
  • Working knowledge of FPGA concepts and workflow,
  • Experience with FW integration testing and debug in pre and post silicon
  • Knowledge of verification flows including System Verilog, UVM and Emulation

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
  • PhD or Master's degree (preferred) in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
