Role overview
The EDI Architect role owns solution architecture for API-based EDI integrations built on the Orderful platform. The focus is on designing scalable, reusable patterns that connect ERPs and other internal systems to Orderful, standardizing transaction flows with trading partners (PO, invoices, ASN, etc.) while ensuring reliability, performance, and data quality.
This role will expand to other EDI platforms as needed.

What you will do
Design end-to-end EDI integration architectures using Orderful as the primary EDI platform, integrating with ERPs, TMSs, CRMs, and other Systems of Record (SOR).
Define canonical data models and mapping patterns between internal schemas and EDI standards (e.g., X12, EDIFACT) implemented via Orderful.
Establish integration standards, reusable frameworks, error-handling patterns, and logging/monitoring strategies for Orderful- / EDI based solutions.
Collaborate with business, engineering, and customer-facing teams to understand order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, Transportation, Warehousing and related flows and translate them into technical designs.
Review technical designs from EDI engineers for scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
Define and guide API usage patterns (REST/JSON) between internal systems and Orderful, including authentication, versioning, and throttling strategies.
Contribute to environment strategy (sandbox, staging, production), deployment approaches, and release governance for Orderful integrations.
Support presales and discovery discussions by shaping solution options, estimates, and risk/assumption logs for new EDI initiatives.

Must-have qualifications
Strong experience architecting EDI solutions, ideally on modern API-first EDI platforms (Orderful experience strongly preferred).
Solid understanding of common EDI transaction sets (e.g., 850, 855, 856, 810, 204, 990, 214, 210, 940, 945) and supply chain / order management business processes.
Deep integration background (5+ yrs) with REST APIs, JSON payloads, webhooks, and event-driven integration patterns.
Experience integrating ERPs (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Infor, Oracle) with external B2B/EDI platforms.
5+ years experience with message queues, event buses, or iPaaS tools used alongside EDI (e.g., Workato, MuleSoft, Boomi).
Proven track record defining standards, patterns, and reusable components across multiple EDI projects.
Strong communication skills and ability to explain EDI and integration decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-have
Hands-on implementation experience with Orderful (connections, flows, transformations, testing).
Background in high-volume transaction environments (retail, manufacturing, logistics, 3PL, marketplaces).
