M365 Admin Remote

Contract to Hire (after 6 months of contract)

Location: Durham, NC

Work mode: Initially remote, after 6 months you will be required to report to the office (Hybrid)

Role Overview

The M365 DLP Specialist will be responsible for designing, deploying, and managing Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies from the ground up. This role requires strong hands-on experience in M365 security and compliance, with an emphasis on building scalable and secure DLP policies that meet government and regulatory requirements.

The consultant will also support related M365 platform tasks, including SSO configuration, user group management in AD, and conditional access policies. This position involves collaboration with stakeholders across sensitive government agencies; therefore, prior government sector experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Microsoft Purview DLP policies from scratch.
  • Configure and deploy secure production DLP policies, encrypted email rules, and future Copilot governance policies.
  • Collaborate with compliance and IT leadership to align DLP strategy with regulatory/government requirements.
  • Support M365 administration tasks, including:
    • Configuring SSO authentication.
    • Creating and managing user groups in Active Directory.
    • Implementing Conditional Access policies.
  • Provide documentation and knowledge transfer on deployed policies.
  • Work with ticketing systems (BossDesk or equivalent training provided if needed).

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft 365 platform experience.
  • 2+ years of focused experience with Microsoft Purview DLP (design + deployment).
  • Strong understanding of M365 security and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with encrypted email policies and Copilot policy governance (preferred).
  • Experience with Active Directory, Conditional Access, and SSO configuration.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory/government compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-department collaboration.
