Job Title: Data Scientist Modeling & Analytics
Location: Houston
Type : Contract
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain regional travel demand models using tools such as ActivitySim, TMIP-EMAT, and VisionEval Analyze large-scale transportation datasets (e.g., NHTS, ACS, CTPP, GPS, transit ridership) to uncover trends and support model calibration
Apply machine learning and statistical techniques to forecast travel behavior and evaluate policy scenarios
Integrate GIS and spatial analytics to visualize transportation networks, accessibility, and equity impacts
Collaborate with MPOs, DOTs, and academic partners on model development and validation Document methodologies, assumptions, and findings in clear, reproducible formats
Support scenario planning, performance measurement, and decision support tools
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Master's degree in Data Science, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field Proficiency in Python, R, or Julia for data analysis and modeling
Experience with transportation modeling frameworks (e.g., ActivitySim, TransCAD, Cube, VISUM)
Strong understanding of travel behavior, mode choice, and land use interactions
Familiarity with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data processing Knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, and uncertainty quantification
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cloud-based data platforms and reproducible workflows (e.g., Jupyter, Git, Docker) Familiarity with TMIP-EMAT for scenario exploration and sensitivity analysis Background in public sector planning, MPO operations, or transportation policy Knowledge of equity analysis, environmental justice,
