Location: Richland, WA 99354

Duration: 1+ Year Contract

Work Setting: 100% Onsite

Schedule: 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday (40 hours/week)

Per Diem: Available

Job Summary

The Regulatory Affairs Engineer I provides regulatory and technical support for critical station initiatives and organizational objectives at the client site. This role collaborates with internal departments, external vendors, industry peers, and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The position involves performing engineering tasks with limited independence while strictly following established station protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on applicable regulatory requirements and precedents to support project activities.
  • Review project documents to assess licensing basis implications under established guidance.
  • Draft and review licensing basis changes ranging from licensee-authorized adjustments to NRC-approved modifications.
  • Support routine NRC licensing actions throughout their lifecycle, including preparation of responses and participation in audits, public meetings, and clarification calls.
  • Coordinate implementation activities associated with NRC-approved changes.
  • Attend industry training sessions and workshops to foster professional growth.
  • Assist project teams with regulatory inquiries and fundamentals.
  • Provide ad hoc regulatory support to ongoing plant operations, both routine and emergent


Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with general engineering principles and regulatory methodologies.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with 10 CFR Part 50 or Part 52 licensing basis maintenance and NRC interaction (e.g., power uprates or license renewals).
  • Prior participation in NRC audits or presubmittal meetings.
  • Nuclear power plant operator license, plant engineering qualifications, or general plant certification.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Pro and additional business tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Operational background in nuclear compliance, licensing, or regulatory affairs.
  • Strong questioning attitude and exceptional attention to detail.
