Role Overview:
Client is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Control and Automation Engineer with a valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license in Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating control and automation systems for a variety of energy, chemical, and industrial projects across Canada and global operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement industrial automation and control system designs (DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS).
- Create control narratives, logic diagrams, cause & effect matrices, and functional specifications.
- Define instrumentation and control architecture, network diagrams, and communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Lead the selection and configuration of automation platforms (e.g., Siemens, Emerson, Rockwell, Schneider, Honeywell).
- Prepare I/O lists, instrument loop diagrams, cable schedules, and wiring diagrams.
- Perform system integration, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ISA, IEC 61511, CSA, NEC, NFPA).
- Interface with process, electrical, and mechanical disciplines for control system alignment.
- Provide technical review of vendor packages and participate in client meetings.
- Support safety lifecycle activities including SIL assessments and validations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Control Systems Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license from a Canadian provincial engineering body (PEO, APEGA, EGBC, etc.).
- 8 15 years of experience in control and automation engineering for oil & gas, chemical, or industrial process plants.
- Proficiency in DCS/PLC/SCADA systems design and integration.
- Strong knowledge of control systems architecture, process control, and industrial networks.
- Familiarity with Canadian regulatory requirements and hazardous area classification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS), control system cybersecurity, and industrial IoT.
- Background in renewable energy, hydrogen, or decarbonization-related automation projects.
- Proficiency in programming and configuration tools (e.g., PCS7, DeltaV, RSLogix, TIA Portal).
- Field experience in commissioning and startup support.
- Experience with model-based control or advanced process control (APC).
