Job Description

The DevOps Architect is responsible for providing technical direction and oversight of application engineering and DevOps practices across multiple scrum teams within a program. This role collaborates closely with Program Architects and Application Architects to understand business needs and deliver both strategic and tactical guidance.

The DevOps Architect promotes a strong DevOps culture by driving innovation, scalability, stability, reusability, and consistency. They evaluate the big picture, leverage an agile mindset, and apply modern DevOps tools to accelerate software delivery. They continuously research emerging technologies to introduce opportunities for improvement and modernization.

Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Identify and provide oversight for technical solutions across source control, build and deployment automation, continuous integration, and environment monitoring.
  • Develop and evangelize best practices for DevOps, CI/CD, API management, and networking.
  • Offer technical direction to scrum teams on initiatives, assisting with proof-of-concepts and template builds.
  • Participate in architecture, technology, and design discussions; create automation templates for infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and change management.
  • Lead research on new tools, technologies, and processes; build consensus and develop plans to introduce cost-effective improvements to the SDLC pipeline.
  • Optimize and evolve comprehensive architecture/strategies for supporting production applications.
  • Work on build, machine configuration, test infrastructure, and virtual machine deployments.
  • Provide Level-3 support for production environments.

Experience, Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, Build/Deployment, and Engineering/Operations roles.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and related tooling.
  • Strong hands-on experience deploying and troubleshooting applications in Windows and Linux production environments.
  • Strong scripting skills using PowerShell, Python, or other deployment scripting languages.
  • Deep experience with CI/CD deployments supporting Microsoft technologies:
    • IIS, TFS, VSTS, Git/ProGit, Octopus Deploy, TeamCity (preferred)
  • High proficiency in Configuration Management using tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or similar.
  • Excellent understanding of Containerization, Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of Microservices architecture, design patterns, automation, scalability, resiliency, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Skilled in networking, load balancing, caching, security, configuration and certificate management.
  • Hands-on experience with Consul, NGINX+, and Redis.
  • Experience working with large enterprise suites such as BPM, CRM, Portals, Content Management (preferred).
