About the Role
At LendingClub, our Software Engineers are building the platform that's transforming banking. As a Sr Backend Engineer, you'll design and implement intuitive, performant interfaces that empower our borrowers and investors to reach their financial goals. You'll join a fast-moving, collaborative team that values experimentation, continuous learning, and elegant solutions.

The above locations are eligible offices for this role. The locations have been determined to foster in-person collaboration with this role's team or the related business lines. We utilize a hybrid work model, and our teams are in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In-person attendance is essential for this role's success, and remote placement will not be considered. LendingClub offers relocation, based on actual job level.

While the position will primarily work local hours, LendingClub is headquartered in Pacific Time and our ideal candidate will be flexible working across time zones when necessary.
Travel Requirements
As needed travel to LendingClub offices and/or other locations, as needed.
Compensation
The target base salary range for this position is 176,000-205,000. The base salary of the role will be determined by job-related knowledge, experience, education, skills, and location. Base salary is just one part of LendingClub's Total Rewards package. You may also be eligible for long-term awards (equity) and an annual bonus (which is based on company performance, employee performance and eligible earnings).

About the Role

As a Sr Backend Engineer, you'll design and implement intuitive, performant interfaces that empower our borrowers and investors to reach their financial goals. You'll join a fast-moving, collaborative team that values experimentation, continuous learning, and elegant solutions.
What You'll Do
- Write clean, high-quality code for complex features and systems
- Participate in, and often lead, code reviews, driving engineering best practices
- Contribute to design discussions and influence architectural decisions across teams
- Own the triage and root cause analysis of production issues, ensuring we learn and improve from every incident
- Implement and document new software components with strong attention to maintainability and performance
- Partner with QA and Operations to test, deploy, and optimize our software
- Help mentor junior engineers and elevate the technical bar for the team
- Identify and reduce technical debt while improving overall code quality
- Drive technical research and spikes, bringing the right people together to find solutions
About You
- 6+ years of software development experience with Java and Web Services
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; or equivalent experience
- Solid understanding of Agile development, TDD, and source control
- Skilled in scripting languages (Python, Shell, Perl, etc.) and working with databases (SQL, MySQL, Oracle)
- Able to turn user stories into scalable, maintainable code that fits the bigger business picture
- A strong problem-solver who balances technical rigor with practical trade-offs
- Passionate about clean architecture, testing, and building high-quality software
- A collaborator and communicator who thrives in a fast-moving, team-oriented environment
- Security-minded and proactive about identifying risks early
