Job Description:

Virtusa is seeking a highly experienced MS SQL Migration Architect to lead and execute large-scale data migration projects for a major client engagement. This is a hybrid role based in Smithfield, RI, offering flexibility to work both onsite and remotely.

As a key member of the data modernization team, you will assess legacy database infrastructures, define and implement migration strategies, and ensure performance, scalability, and data integrity across environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end data migration efforts to Microsoft SQL Server from platforms such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Access, and flat files

  • Analyze current data systems and create comprehensive, phased migration plans

  • Design, develop, and optimize T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, and database schema structures

  • Utilize SSIS to build robust ETL pipelines and data validation workflows

  • Implement data mapping, transformation, and cleansing strategies

  • Collaborate with application teams, DBAs, and analysts to gather migration requirements

  • Ensure minimal downtime and robust rollback capabilities during transitions

  • Monitor and troubleshoot issues throughout the migration lifecycle

  • Document architecture, strategies, and outcomes


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

  • 15+ years of experience in MS SQL Server development and data migration

  • 10+ years as a SQL Server DBA with deep infrastructure understanding

  • Expertise in T-SQL, database schema design, triggers, views, and performance tuning

  • Proficient with SSIS and other ETL tools

  • Hands-on experience migrating from multiple platforms (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Access)

  • Strong troubleshooting, performance optimization, and data governance skills

  • Solid knowledge of rollback and failover strategies
