Job Details

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

To deliver on that mission, Amazon is looking for talented candidates who combine superb technical, research and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively.

In this role, you'll join the Kuiper Structural Analysis team Material Review Board (MRB) to innovate and solve engineering issues that arise during Kuiper operations leading to every flight of our constellation of satellites. You will work hard, have fun, and make history!

This Structural Liaison Engineer must have Material Review Board (MRB) experience in aerospace programs, and must be able to understand the balance between engineering judgment versus analysis rigor and when each is appropriate.

Key job responsibilities
This position will work 2nd shift, 3:30pm-12:00am
Review and disposition non-conformance events related to the structural integrity of the spacecraft and its ground support equipment that may occur in all phases of the Kuiper operations: procurement, storage, handling, manufacturing, assembly, testing, transportation, final integration, launch and orbital operations
Develop standard repairs, rework procedures, propose design for manufacturing (DFM) improvements, improved processes and work instructions
Document static, dynamic and fatigue stress analyses when needed to support dispositions, interpreting established structural analysis reports;
Develop analysis methods to address common structural non-conformances
Work with Quality, Design, Manufacturing, Structural Engineering and experts from other engineering fields to provide root cause failure analyses
Interact with internal customers, external customers, and suppliers

A day in the life
This Structural Liaison/MRB Engineer will be providing engineering support to resolve structural engineering issues that arise during manufacturing and assembly processes, quality inspection and acceptance tests, through the application of engineering and design principles, consulting the structural development teams as needed.

About the team
The Structural Material Review Board team is part of the Kuiper Structural Integrity and Analysis teams (Structural Analysis, Loads and Dynamics, Materials and Processes and Reliability) that is ultimately responsible for Integrity of not only the spacecraft but all other commodities supporting the program, inside and outside of the Mechanical Engineering group.

- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Strong fundamentals in structural dynamics (modal, frequency response, random vibration, sine and acoustic analyses/tests);
- Experience with fatigue and fracture analyses;
- Knowledge of or experience with spacecraft technology and related primary, secondary and tertiary structures;
- Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System (MES);
- Strong understanding or Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing;
