job summary:

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Data Governance & Compliance to lead the development and implementation of our data governance framework. This role is critical for ensuring our data is accurate, secure, and compliant with both regulatory and internal standards. You will work across the organization with data stewards, legal, security, and technology teams to build a robust governance structure that supports data mesh principles and enables high-quality, trusted data products.

responsibilities:

Governance Strategy and Leadership



  • Develop and maintain the enterprise-wide data governance strategy, frameworks, and policies.
  • Establish governance structures that support domain ownership, data product stewardship, and data mesh enablement.
  • Define clear roles and responsibilities for data governance across the organization.


Policy Development and Enforcement



  • Draft and maintain policies and standards covering data quality, metadata management, privacy, security, and retention.
  • Collaborate with legal, security, and compliance teams to ensure policies align with regulatory obligations such as GDPR and CCPA.
  • Support the implementation of governance policies through tools and process integration.
  • Monitor adherence to governance policies and lead remediation efforts as needed.


Data Stewardship and Enablement



  • Build and lead a community of practice for data stewards and domain data owners.
  • Provide training and education to promote data literacy and governance best practices.
  • Define data quality metrics and monitoring approaches to drive accountability and transparency.


Collaboration and Operationalization



  • Work closely with data architects, engineers, and product managers to embed governance into day-to-day workflows.
  • Participate in design reviews and planning to ensure governance considerations are addressed early.
  • Partner with platform teams to integrate governance capabilities into core platforms, including cataloging, lineage tracking, and quality monitoring.

qualifications:


  • Proven experience in a data governance or data management role, with a focus on strategy and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry compliance standards.
  • Experience developing and enforcing data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and lead across various teams.

  • Experience with data mesh principles, data product stewardship, and domain-driven design.
  • Knowledge of data catalog, lineage, and quality monitoring tools.
  • Experience in building and leading a community of data stewards or data owners.
  • Background in a compliance, legal, or security-focused role within a data-driven organization.
