Job Details

ASSYST Inc., seeks a IT Field technician for our client in Rockville, MD.
Responsibilities:

  • The contractor will be responsible for providing technical support and services to ensure the smooth operation of IT systems and networks for our client. Duties include:
  • Installing, terminating, and testing low voltage cabling (UTP, coax).
  • Troubleshooting customer Wi-Fi service and devices, including conducting performance and reachability tests.
  • Coordinating daily schedules to prioritize workload efficiently.
  • Installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS).
  • Performing residential installations of internet service and Wi-Fi connected devices.
  • Connecting customer devices in homes/residences, such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and smart TVs.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving residential internet service issues.
  • Educating customers on operating equipment and services after initial setup.
  • Provisioning client-owned WiFi routers/devices.
  • Updating clients documentation on work performed inside residences.
  • Testing and replacing uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) at client sites.
  • Assisting Network Operations Center (NOC) and Network Engineering staff as needed.
  • Diagnosing problems with host network adapters, cabling, routers, switches, wireless access points, and Wi-Fi services.
  • Providing basic understanding of IT and networking technologies and protocols.
  • Handling low voltage cabling problems and related use of cable testers, cable trace/ID toners, and other tools.
  • Gathering related information as requested by NOC Manager and associates.
  • Responding to electronic communications (email, SMS texts, phone calls) and maintaining status information with NOC and associates as appropriate.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of basic power distribution and protection systems.
  • Having hands-on experience with Network Management Systems (NMS) is a plus.
  • Reporting directly to the Community Technology Manager.
  • Working under the direction of Network Services staff as assigned.
  • Handling inventory control and procurement of IT equipment.

Required Skills & Experiences:

  • Basic familiarity with software including Monday.com, Solarwinds, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with network technologies such as TCP/IP and wireless technologies, including routers and access points.
  • Strong customer service and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver s license and own personal vehicle for transportation to job sites.
