Planning Engineer

Location: 100% Remote

Length: 12 + months contract

Payrate range: $30-$40/hr.

Schedule: Monday- Friday

The Role

Lead network grooming operations by transitioning services from the Coriant 7100 platform to the Ciena NGO platform. Following migration, systematically recover critical optical and card components from decommissioned Coriant equipment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Execute the decommissioning of Coriant 7100 network elements post-migration to the Ciena NGO platform.
  • Identify and recover high-value optical modules and card components for reuse or inventory optimization.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of grooming activities, asset recovery, and platform transitions to support audits and operational planning.
  • Collaborate with engineering, field operations, and asset management teams to align migration timelines and resource deployment.
  • Operate with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and accountability.
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in telecommunications, engineering, or network planning.
  • Proven expertise in network grooming, decommissioning, and optical component handling.
  • Strong understanding of DWDM, SONET/SDH, and Ethernet transport technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality.
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, and time management abilities.
Essential Job Functions
  • Adapt to evolving processes and requirements with agility.
  • Lead and deliver major projects within established deadlines.
  • Identify process gaps and recommend improvements to peers and leadership.
  • Understand interdependencies across platforms and departments.
  • Support planning by identifying unused capacity, underutilized assets, and streamlining opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve grooming-related issues in real time to ensure uninterrupted network performance.
  • Produce clear, concise communications with well-defined problem statements, requirements, and recommendations.

This is a remote (work-from-home) position available within the U.S.
