Job Description
The engineer I-substation operations provides engineering services for the planning, design, construction and maintenance management of projects on MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system. Responsibilities include project management, estimating, materials procurement and construction contracting, asset tracking, compliance oversight, project coordination and special projects. May provide intern supervision to wage employees as required. This is the first level position of the engineer career path.
Responsibilities
Manage, update and analyze effectiveness of substation/delivery maintenance programs including oil sampling, SF6 usage, asset management, substation commissioning, infrared testing and NERC relay testing. (30%)
Provide technical project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (20%)
Conduct engineering studies and investigations and prepare oral and written reports as assigned. (10%)
Participate and update delivery's risk management system, including updating plan critical property units, risk identification, mitigation measure, loss control measures, loss control measures, emergency response and recovery plans and plan testing. (10%)
Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%) Provide engineering services for the planning, design and construction of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system; focus may include planning and budgeting for substation O/M and capital improvements. (5%)
Keep informed of industry issues and technical trends that can benefit MidAmerican Energy Company's business. (5%)
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution or six years' relevant experience.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
