Business Intelligence Developer
About the Role
Navajo, Inc. is seeking a Business Intelligence Developer who can bridge data engineering, data visualization, and business analysis. This role is ideal for someone passionate about shaping raw data into actionable insights, with the technical skills to build pipelines in Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, and Data Factory, the design expertise to create compelling Power BI dashboards, and the business acumen to partner directly with stakeholders.
This position is initially onsite at our Denver headquarters, with the option to move to a hybrid work model once onboarding and early collaboration are successfully established.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Engineering & Modeling
- Build and maintain data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, and Azure Data Factory.
- Design and optimize semantic/analytical data models (star, snowflake, lakehouse) that support enterprise reporting.
- Develop and tune PySpark/Spark SQL pipelines for performance efficiency in production environments.
- Implement ETL/ELT processes ensuring accuracy, scalability, and governance alignment.
- Business Intelligence Development
- Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI reports and dashboards aligned to business objectives.
- Apply best practices in DAX, Power Query, visualization, and UX to deliver high-performing solutions.
- Manage the full report lifecycle with Azure DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Business Analysis & Partnering
- Engage directly with business users to gather requirements, map processes, and translate needs into BI solutions.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, simplifying complex datasets into clear, actionable insights.
- Champion adoption by delivering training, documentation, and ongoing support.
- Governance & Innovation
- Contribute to Navajo s BI governance processes, ensuring compliance with security, access, and quality standards.
- Stay current with evolving BI technologies (Fabric, Synapse, Power BI, Spark) and industry practices.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data engineering, or analytics roles.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, and Azure Data Factory for data pipelines and modeling.
- Proficiency in PySpark, Spark SQL, T-SQL, and performance optimization in production environments.
- Expert-level proficiency with Power BI (DAX, Power Query, advanced visualization design).
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational and analytical data modeling.
- Experience managing solutions with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
- Proven ability to act as a business analyst: eliciting requirements, documenting processes, and aligning solutions to business needs.
- Strong communication and data storytelling skills.
- Comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the consumer goods or manufacturing industries.
- Familiarity with Fabric Lakehouses and broader lakehouse architectures.
- Experience establishing or contributing to BI governance councils or COEs.
- Experience with scripting or automation (Python, R, or similar).
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, particularly Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Finance modules.
- Experience within Supply Chain Management (SCM), Manufacturing, and Distribution
- Demonstrated success in hybrid roles blending data engineering, visualization, and business analysis.
