The Senior Director, Data Governance will have cross-functional responsibility to lead operational data privacy and data compliance initiatives across the NBC Media Group and the extended global streaming platform (GSP), including services supporting Peacock, Sky Now, SkyShowtime, and ShowMax. Their remit covers the specialty areas of data management, fair and ethical use of data, and technical and regulatory compliance. This role has responsibility over our privacy tooling implementations, ongoing maintenance, and testing, as well as incident triage relating to privacy. The role will also direct operational data governance practices which provide data sharing and data ethics services to our commercial partners in the Brands the team supports. Specific tools managed by this remit include our Consent Management Platform, our Subject Rights Request portal, as well as other miscellaneous compliance tools covering data dormancy, children's viewing protections, and marketing and other consents. This role will align to our enterprise-wide Data Governance and Privacy functions as well as hold accountability to our legal team for managing the above processes.

This role requires acute attention to detail, a strong sense of accountability, teamwork and understanding of complex privacy regulations and requirements. The incumbent is accountable for developing and implementing Data Governance principles, supporting the creation and operationalization of processes, and standards to ensure coordination, standardization, and alignment across the enterprise.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Owns how data is handled and ensuring it is maintained in a secure and compliant manner, reducing the risk of data breaches and unauthorized access.
  • Reduces or manages risk for the governed data environments in scope for the team and acts as escalation point for high criticality risk decisions.
  • Serves as a single point of contact for the technical and non-technical leadership, and teams, to develop and deploy privacy compliance mechanisms.
  • Consults on issues of product strategy, roadmaps, business processes and foster awareness of legal and regulatory guidance with partner teams in Product, technology, and partnerships.
  • Demonstrates exceptional expertise in technical and regulatory data compliance, including expertise in all current laws and regulations on the subject that apply to in scope territories such as GDPR, CCPA, COPPA & VPPA
  • Manages OneTrust or other tooling for the GSP brands. Including implementation accountability across the CMP and Data Subject Rights
  • Designs and owns product responsibility overseeing the creation of miscellaneous compliance tools, including but not limited to processes around data dormancy, children's viewing protections, and marketing and other consents.
  • Serves as a liaison with data stakeholders across the organization to ensure alignment and understanding of existing and evolving data privacy requirements, evaluating risks, and providing recommendations / solutions in a timely manner.
  • Understands the end-to-end data lifecycle of the GSP and related compliance obligations and controls including purging of customer data based on user activity, requests, and preferences.
  • Creates scalable frameworks, standards and data privacy best practices across our data ecosystem and lifecycle.
  • Guides and mentors others to ensure ethical data practices at all levels.
  • Articulates clear policy on known ethical challenges so that organization may comply with expectations.
  • Leads and perform data privacy and compliance audits for key issues related to Personal Information, CCPA, legal guidance, launch preparedness and GDPR (and related) regulations. Identifying and inventorying issues, suggested improvements, and aid in tracking and implementing fixes.
  • Acts as primary contact with Comcast Global Audit (CGA) and Sky Data Governance for reviews of privacy capabilities and compliance.
  • Ensures privacy impact assessments or records of processing and security assessments are completed for system and processes in scope, including vendor management.
  • Coordinates with the Privacy Operations to facilitate training and awareness within stakeholder users.


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience working with regulatory compliance frameworks as they relate to technology platforms
  • 5+ years of primary experience in defining, documenting, and implementing Data Privacy and Governance best practices, data requirements, policies & procedures, preferably with consumer data in a large organization.
  • 5+ years of technical experience with data & analytics platforms, specific exposure to real time data environments a plus
  • Understanding of consumer privacy regulations, laws, and common practices across the media landscape, as informed by our legal partners and industry information.
  • BA/BS in technical or quantitative discipline or significant relevant work experience, Graduate work in Law, Privacy, or Regulatory Policy a plus

  • Demonstrated understanding of Data Lifecycle management, including obfuscation techniques
  • Experience working with and navigating a matrixed organization composed of technology horizontals and business focused verticals Stakeholder facilitation with business and technical executives.

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
