Job Description
Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented, creative, and technically skilled Landscape Construction Estimator & Landscape Designer to join our growing team. This hybrid role blends the precision of construction estimating with the creativity of landscape design, making it ideal for a dynamic professional who thrives in both analytical and artistic environments. You will work on residential and commercial landscape projects from concept through execution, collaborating with clients, project managers, and field teams to bring visions to life on time and within budget.
Education/Experience
- Degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Construction Management, or related field. (Preferred)
Required Skills/Abilities
- Preferred 1-3 years of professional experience in landscape estimating and/or landscape design (design-build experience preferred).
- Proficiency in design and estimation software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, LMN, Aspire, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of landscape construction methods, grading, drainage, irrigation, planting, and hardscapes.
- Excellent visual, spatial, and technical design skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities; ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to present to clients and internal teams confidently.
- Passion for sustainable and functional landscape design.
Landscape Estimating (50%):
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to prepare accurate cost estimates.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope of work to determine the required labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Perform take-offs and prepare detailed cost estimates and bid packages.
- Review and interpret landscape architectural plans and civil drawings.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate conditions and gather relevant data for accurate estimating
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, and field supervisors to ensure bid accuracy and job feasibility.
- Prepare change order estimates for ongoing projects.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and coordinate bid submissions according to deadlines.
- Assist in value engineering and alternative pricing strategies to meet client budgets.
- Prepare detailed proposals and bid packages for residential and commercial landscape projects.
- Track costs and maintain an estimating database for historical data and accuracy improvement.
- Collaborate with project managers and designers to ensure alignment of scope, budget, and expectations.
- Support handoff meetings to ensure smooth transition from pre-construction to field operations.
Landscape Design (50%):
- Collaborate with clients to understand project goals, site requirements, and design preferences.
- Develop conceptual and final landscape designs using CAD, 3D modeling, and hand sketches.
- Select appropriate plants, hardscape materials, and landscape features based on design intent, site conditions, customer needs, and environmental factors.
- Prepare presentation materials including plant palettes, renderings, and layout plans.
- Create construction documents, planting plans, and material specifications.
- Ensure designs comply with local codes, ordinances, and sustainability practices.
- Coordinate with landscape architects, engineers, and other consultants as needed.
