Job Description

ECS is seeking an Application Training Specialist to work in our Stafford, VA office. Please Note: This position is contingent upon additional funding.

ECS is seeking an Application Training Specialist who is passionate about learning, mastering, and teaching complex software applications, workflows, and processes. This individual will play a critical role in empowering users-ranging from new hires to domestic and international end-user communities-to confidently navigate custom applications and leverage them effectively in their mission. This role supports mission critical law enforcement and investigative applications for a diverse user community of forensic examiners, laboratory technicians, and support staff as they utilize applications services maintained by ECS.

This role requires someone who thrives on both deep technical understanding and clear communication, with the ability to simplify complex information for diverse audiences. Equally important, the specialist will foster a sense of community and collaboration across user groups, training teams, and stakeholders-ensuring that users feel supported, informed, and engaged.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Translate Complexity into Clarity: Learn intricate application workflows, processes, and data review procedures, then design and deliver training that makes these concepts approachable and actionable for all levels of users.
  • Collaborative Curriculum Development: Partner with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to identify training needs and create engaging learning materials, including demonstrations, guides, presentations, and hands-on exercises.
  • Deliver Engaging Training: Lead both in-person and virtual sessions for diverse audiences-from small, specialized groups (~20+) to large global user communities (500+). Training formats may include workshops, onboarding sessions, live demonstrations, or extended course delivery (e.g., week-long intensive sessions).
  • Facilitate Training Logistics: Manage training schedules, coordinate logistics, and ensure all training sites and resources are prepared and support learner engagement.
  • Enhance Community Engagement: Cultivate a collaborative training environment that encourages peer learning and knowledge sharing, building stronger user adoption and organizational effectiveness.
  • Measure and Improve Impact: Conduct training assessments, generate after-action reports, and provide recommendations to refine curriculum and delivery strategies.
  • Support Ongoing Learning: Work closely with the program Help Desk team to assist users with application troubleshooting, address questions, and remain a go-to source for best practices during onboarding and beyond.
  • Stay Ahead of Change: Proactively learn and internalize new software releases, features, and capabilities, ensuring that training materials evolve with the application lifecycle.
  • Knowledge Sharing & Documentation: Create, maintain, and update user guides, job aids, and workflow documentation to support consistent training delivery at scale.

Required Skills

  • Active Top-Secret Clearance (required)
  • 3+ years of experience delivering training or working directly with software applications, with emphasis on explaining complex workflows and data-intensive processes
  • Proven ability to convey technical and functional concepts clearly, tailoring content for diverse audiences
  • Dynamic, confident public speaking skills with strong facilitation presence in live and virtual classrooms
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and related tools for business, training, and instructional design
  • Solid knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design practices, and training delivery methods
  • Willingness to support onsite in Stafford, VA with domestic and international travel as required

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Communications, IT, or related field
  • Background in biology or functional knowledge of forensic, scientific analysis workflows
  • Prior experience providing functional end-user support for custom software applications
  • Prior experience supporting program documentation, SOP development, or strategic communications
  • Prior experience delivering training at scale for government, defense, or mission-driven programs
