Job Title: Senior Network Engineer
Location: Boston, MA
Duration: 10 Months
Work Arrangement: Hybrid Onsite support required; candidate must be able to respond to on-call/on-site situations within a 2-hour drive time.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Network/Systems Engineer responsible for maintaining the design, management, and integrity of internal Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) networks and systems, including customer-facing hosted and cloud environments. This role involves designing, implementing, and testing complex infrastructures while ensuring reliability, security, and performance in both on-premises and cloud environments.
The ideal candidate will provide expert technical support, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and respond to urgent, business-critical technology issues. Flexible work hours may be required for systems deployment and troubleshooting activities.
Key Responsibilities
Design, install, and support ITS networks, including Routing, Switching, Firewalls, Load Balancing, VPN, and Systems Integration.
Design scalable, secure, and highly available on-premises and cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
Collaborate on pre- and post-bid ITS project designs.
Support Windows and Linux servers, VMware technologies, Storage Infrastructure, and Data Domain.
Create and maintain architectural diagrams, documentation, and governance policies.
Provide on-site and remote support on a 24x7 basis to business-critical systems.
Troubleshoot complex networking/system issues independently and with team members.
Engage in capacity planning, high-level analysis, and systems troubleshooting.
Mentor junior engineers and provide leadership in best practices.
Travel between facilities to maintain and deploy networking equipment.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of professional experience in network/cloud design engineering and systems integration.
Proven expertise in Cisco switches, routers, and firewall best practices.
Expert knowledge of routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, BGP) in mixed environments.
Experience with MODBUS protocol and SCADA systems.
Knowledge of AIOps, Observability, Cisco DNAC, and system monitoring tools.
Strong background in Access Control, Firewalls, Citrix NetScaler, VPN, Wi-Fi, and Enterprise Wireless technologies.
Hands-on experience with VMware environments, virtual switches, storage systems, and fiber channel zoning.
Familiarity with SONET, SD-WAN, T1, T3, DWDM technologies.
Skilled in Visio network/system diagramming.
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Relevant technical certifications (CCIE, CCNP, AWS, Azure, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in ITS-related technologies.
Strong knowledge of communications protocols and security models.
Proven ability to manage critical response systems with strict SLA adherence.
