Job Title: Data Scientist Electric Utility (IoT & Predictive Analytics)
Location: Remote
Job Description
We are looking for a Data Scientist with expertise in IoT, time-series analytics, and AI/ML modeling to join IBM's team in the Electric Utility domain. In this role, you will develop advanced AI models for oscillation frequency analysis, real-time operational insights, and predictive maintenance to enhance grid reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop AI/ML models for detecting and analyzing oscillation frequencies in power grid systems to prevent instability and outages.
Design real-time analytics pipelines for streaming data from IoT sensors, SCADA, and edge devices.
Build predictive maintenance models to forecast equipment failures using historical and real-time sensor data.
Create interactive dashboards (e.g., Grafana, Power BI, custom solutions) for operational teams to monitor grid health.
Implement edge-to-cloud data solutions, optimizing models for low-latency processing in distributed environments.
Collaborate with data engineers to deploy scalable ML pipelines on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud).
Ensure models comply with utility industry regulations (e.g., NERC CIP) and cybersecurity standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in Data Science, with a focus on time-series analysis and IoT applications.
Strong background in Python, PySpark, and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
Expertise in signal processing, spectral analysis, and anomaly detection (e.g., FFT, wavelet transforms).
Experience with real-time analytics tools (Kafka, Spark Streaming) and time-series databases (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB).
Proficiency in cloud-based ML services (AWS SageMaker, Azure ML) and edge AI frameworks.
Familiarity with utility grid operations, phasor measurement units (PMUs), or industrial IoT systems.
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of physics-informed ML or digital twins for power systems.
Experience with Modbus, DNP3, or OPC UA data integration.
Certifications in AI/ML, cloud platforms, or energy sector analytics.
