Role Purpose:

Under general direction, supports the introduction of new products to the manufacturing facility in accordance with the company Common Product Development (CPD) processes. Works with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure optimum product and process design for manufacturability. Develops and processes associated documentation, estimates manufacturing cost, and initiates execution of prototype and pilot activities. Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. May lead small special project teams within or external to the Industrialization group.

The selected candidate will understand PCB assembly and manufacturing processes and constraints. S/he will have a solid understanding of design for manufacturing and design for compliance methodologies associated with printed circuit board assembly. S/he will be proficient in IPC-A-610, soldering processes, coatings, underfill, manufacturing test, high density designs, through hole and surface mount technologies, board stackup / pad designs, and design rules.

Key Responsibilities:

Actively serve as the Industrialization representative, in all phases, on NPI/Continuation Engineering project teams.

Collaborate with Development team to transition PCBA from development to manufacturing.

Identify assembly equipment, tooling, and fixture requirements. Support the procurement, installation, and validation activities.

Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) analyses.

Provide input to product manufacturing cost throughout the NPI project.

Participate in Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA).

Lead prototype and pilot activities in PCB Assembly Operations including setting up machines, programming and troubleshooting assembly issues. Create Documented Work Instructions (DWI) as required.

Report progress of PCB assembly builds and gather data to release products to manufacturing per the Production Release Agreement Checklist.

Ensure compliance to all production environmental, health, and safety requirements.

Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree or education.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Professional work background in electronics or related field.

Demonstrated understanding of New Product Introduction process.

Good with Project Management, Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), and Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies.

Ability to execute transactions in an Enterprise Resource Planning system, preferably SAP.

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Access, Word, Excel)

Good written and verbal communications in English.

Temperament

Support cross functional project teams to ensure manufacturing validation strategies are efficient and stream-lined with an end-to-end perspective.

Actively participate in the new product design evaluation process

Ability to lead and manage multiple projects across different product lines and teams. Manage and communicate project timelines and action plans effectively to deliver cost effective test solutions on schedule and budget.

Lead, coach, and mentor others in within Industrialization Design PCBA team across some areas to build cross-functional expertise within the team and partners

Works on issues of medium scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current trends in the business and operations

Apply engineering problem solving skills and familiarity of Rockwell Automation systems to perform duties and responsibilities

Initiate the identification, development and implementation of New Product cost reduction and process improvement projects. May lead a small team to complete these projects

Exhibit good organizational and interpersonal skills

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form, to a broad audience of varying technical and cultural background

Collaborate with or lead others from within and outside of the Industrialization group to achieve common objectives.

Simultaneously support multiple business units and manufacturing plants
