Job Description:
The Virginia Department of Social Services (DSS) is seeking an experienced Java/JEE Developer with 13+ years of experience to support an upgrade and modernization project. The primary responsibilities include upgrading existing applications from WebSphere 8.5.5, removing legacy Internet Explorer 11 settings, and ensuring smooth integration with Oracle databases.
Key Responsibilities:
Upgrade and migrate applications from WebSphere 8.5.5 to supported versions or platforms.
Refactor applications to eliminate dependencies on Internet Explorer 11 (IE11).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of modernization efforts.
Analyze current application architecture and recommend performance or usability improvements.
Conduct thorough testing and validation of upgraded systems.
Maintain documentation for code changes, configurations, and deployments.
Required Qualifications:
13+ years of hands-on experience in Java/JEE development.
Strong background in WebSphere Application Server environments.
Experience working with Oracle databases.
Solid understanding of front-end technologies and modernizing legacy UI elements.
Experience removing or refactoring IE11-specific configurations.
Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with Virginia state agencies or similar public sector clients.
Knowledge of accessibility standards and modern front-end best practices.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools.
