JOB TITLE: Data Center Communication Technician
JOB LOCATION: Schenectady, NY
WAGE RANGE*: $23-25/hr.
JOB NUMBER: CommTech


Expected to work if shift falls on holiday
OT is available depending on coverage needs
3 to 4 months into job the remote hybrid options will become available
Shift is Sunday
Schedule: 5AM to 5PM (11 hour shift plus 1 hour lunch break
2 days on , 2 days off , so 44 hours one week then 33 the next
Week 1: Monday On, Tuesday On, Wednesday Off, Thursday Off, Friday On, Saturday On, Sunday On.

Week 2: Week 2 - Monday Off, Tuesday Off, Wednesday On, Thursday On, Friday Off, Saturday off, Sunday Off

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:


EDUCATION
Minimum education
Two year technical college degree or comparable experience
Years Experience
1-2 years preferred
Minimum technical knowledge and skills requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of IP protocols, window command line and Cisco equipment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Office suite and PC operating systems
  • Entry level knowledge of WAN topology, associated monitoring and troubleshooting tools, data center network equipment and network cable specifications.
Special training and knowledge requirements
Network Related:
  • Basic level - WAN topology (MPLS), Cellular (CDMA, GSM), Satellite, associated monitoring and troubleshooting tools (HPOV, HNS vision, Data Center network equipment (firewalls, switches, routers, etc), and network cable specifications.
  • Basic level - network troubleshooting tools (such as spectrum analyzer, protocal analyzers, etc...)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

OVERALL OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE

Provides intermediate level monitoring and troubleshooting for operating equipment and 24x365 adherence to operational procedures, checklists, policies, and national IT Best Practices.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Use Client Openview and Genesis network monitoring systems to provide in-depth real time analytics and alerts for the retailer terminal network with a focus on providing 100% network availability.
  • Manage and monitor all network devices and inter-site connections between multiple New York sites on an MPLS network.
  • Performs intermediate level troubleshooting of network technologies related to IP network systems and any other IGT deployed network systems and backbone transports according to established procedures, using existing tools.
  • Performs intermediate level infrastructure hardware, software and wiring installations in accordance with established procedures.
  • Monitors logical security through use of established tools and procedures.
  • Accurately executes communications checklists to ensure all daily tasks / work are completed.
  • Adheres to service level agreements by following established SLA performance requirements
  • Adheres to IT best practices by following established IT best practice performance
  • Adheres to Incident Management process and performs assigned incident identification, notification, documentation, and intermediate level diagnosis and remediation activities.
  • Provides training to other technicians through free flow of information, encouraging and appropriately evaluating feedback, encouraging innovation, and inspiring / motivating others.
  • Assists in providing informal coaching and mentoring to junior level communication Technicians.
  • Prepares a weekly report of chronic network issues for the customer
  • Reviews the weekly network invoice to ensure accuracy before it is sent to the customer.
  • Reviews and updates network procedures as needed.
