Position Title: Director of Data Science

Business Unit: Marketing

Reports to: Chief Marketing Officer

Position Overview:

Hands-on leadership position (player/coach) responsible for supporting various internal customers by analyzing complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. In addition to advanced analytical and modeling skills, this role is also proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets and communicating results. Works closely with internal clients and other IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Set the department strategy and manage a team of Data Scientists focused on marketing, credit, regulatory and risk management: planning department workflow, assigning tasks, training and performance reviews.

Develops and applies expertise in areas such as machine learning, optimization, data mining, statistical and mathematical analysis. Performs undirected research and tackles open-ended problems and questions, as well as develops and tests algorithms to aid in analysis of such problems and questions.

Conducts statistical analysis and communicates results to relevant parties, authors reports containing actionable recommendations based on employed techniques, educates and trains others regarding quantitative techniques, sampling techniques and analytical methods and evaluates sources of information in order to determine any limitations in terms of reliability or usability.

Works in a cross-function capacity to identify opportunities to enhance analytics in key business units throughout the Bank. Participates in the development of the Bank's analytics framework and data culture. Advises internal customers regarding the appropriateness of available quantitative methods to solve business and research problems.

Manipulates and analyzes complex data gathered from multiple, structured and unstructured data sources.

Identifies specific areas of weakness in data mining and interpretation processes and recommends appropriate methods to improve organizational understanding and analysis.

Evaluates and recommends third party statistical software and programs for use within the company as deemed necessary to accommodate the unique needs of end users.

Plans and executes data collection methods for specific projects and determines the types and sizes of sample groups to be used. Provide guidance on data sourcing and storage.

Provide thought leadership on all things data science including technologies, services and processes.

Supports predictive modeling needs, including development, production, maintenance and documentation of results and methodologies. Provides on-going tracking and monitoring of performance of decision systems and statistical models.

Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
