Job Title: Cloud Operations Subject Matter Expert
Location: Rockville, MD (Onsite)
Duration/Term: Long Term Contract
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Cloud Operations Lead to manage and optimize AWS cloud infrastructure operations while leading a high-performing operations team. This role requires deep technical expertise in AWS environments, strong troubleshooting skills, and team leadership capabilities to drive performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Infrastructure Management & Optimization:
- Oversee AWS cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes, EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, Lambda, RDS, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch.
- Implement infrastructure automation (IaC) using tools like Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Troubleshoot complex cloud issues across compute, network, and storage in AWS.
- Manage incident resolution and problem-solving efforts for cloud environments.
- Continuously optimize cloud operations for performance, security, and cost efficiency.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Provide functional leadership, including task planning, mentoring, and team development.
- Ensure efficient collaboration between technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Promote cloud best practices and drive continuous improvements in cloud operations.
- Guide team members in troubleshooting, architecture, and operational excellence.
Compliance & Regulatory Requirements:
- Ensure cloud governance and security compliance in regulated industries (healthcare, finance, etc.).
- Lead disaster recovery planning and high-availability strategies.
- Maintain documentation, SOPs, and compliance reports for cloud operations.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in cloud architecture and operations.
- Extensive hands-on expertise in AWS services (EC2, Kubernetes (EKS preferred), S3, IAM, Lambda, RDS, CloudFormation, CloudWatch).
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities across cloud networking, storage, and compute.
- Experience with incident management and operational resilience in cloud environments.
- Proficiency in Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar automation tools.
- Demonstrated team leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) (K8s)
- Certified AWS
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, finance).
- Familiarity with enterprise cloud governance, compliance, and security frameworks.
