**Our client, a Big 5 Bank, is currently looking to hire for a Sr. Analyst, Product Control to join their team in downtown Toronto! This role is best suited for candidates with relevant work experience in financial services, specifically fund accounting. This includes experience with / knowledge of financial instruments, specifically equity derivatives (options, futures, etc.) and knowledge of the valuations and accounting of these products.**
Job Description
The Senior Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day operations processing and assigned book level analysis within the Product Control team that is accountable for daily P&L reporting and analysis, including the reconciliation of actual P&L to trader estimate (flash P&L), the decomposition of actual P&L to risk profile (predicted P&L) and the reconciliation of sub-ledger and general ledger activity for Equity Derivatives.
Product Control provides commentary on unexplained P&L above defined thresholds, and reviews and analyses significant P&L, both at a transaction and book level.
The Senior Analyst must have the necessary skills to understand, analyze and comment on the drivers of P&L and to communicate effectively with management.
The group is also required to perform monthly General Ledger reconciliation and Balance Sheet substantiation, and to execute Independent Price Verification (IPV), including verification of completeness and delivery of fulsome analytic reporting of IPV results, such that material elements are articulated.
Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrate leadership and on-going assistance to junior/new employees to optimize staff performance and team work. Increase the success of the team through:
Keeping knowledge current of the systems and technology within the industry
Observance of policies, procedures, practices and operating routines.
2. Maintain the strong internal controls over daily operations to ensure processing, reporting and P&L sign off monitoring activities are effectively and efficiently executed. Due to the binding deadlines effective and efficient execution is a necessity.
3. Contribute to the protection of the Bank from exposure to loss by ensuring compliance with Bank policies, procedures and limits. In addition, ensuring the prompt and efficient investigation of all inquiries brought to the group's attention.
Qualifications:
1) Relevant work experience in financial services, likely fund accounting companies or banks. This includes experience with / knowledge of financial instruments, specifically equity derivatives (options, futures, etc.) and knowledge of the valuations and accounting of these products.
2) Educational background in Accounting, Commerce, Math, Computer Science, or Engineering. If Math, Science, or Engineering, ideally passed CFA Level I. GPA 3.0+ out of 4.0 (demonstrates their ability to learn)
3) Strong technical skills in Excel, ideally programming knowledge in Python, R, VBA, etc., and good attitude (interest in learning)
NICE TO HAVES:
1) SQL, Python, R, VBA or other programming knowledge
2) CFA, FRM, CPA or relevant certification
3) Education from Rotman (U of T), Schulich (York), or Waterloo preferred

Business Drivers/Customer Impact: The Product Control team is responsible for managing daily PnL, month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financials and valuations for the front office, and without accurate PnL the bank is at a huge financial risk with daily trading activity.
Duration: 6 month contract to permanent
Pay: $30 - $38/hr
