Senior Accountant (Bookkeeping)
Our client is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to take ownership of the monthly close process, produce accurate financial statements, manage key reconciliations, and provide guidance on core accounting procedures. Our client is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to take ownership of the monthly close process, produce accurate financial statements, manage key reconciliations, and provide guidance on core accounting procedures. The ideal candidate brings disciplined general ledger expertise, collaborates effectively with internal teams, and communicates professionally with external clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including revenue recognition, expense accruals, prepaid and fixed asset amortization, deferred revenue, and reclasses
- Oversee the general ledger: maintain the chart of accounts, review entries, and ensure GAAP-compliant classifications
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and all key balance sheet accounts; investigate and resolve variances promptly
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) with clear variance analysis delivered on schedule
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor onboarding, bill processing, payments, invoicing, cash application, aging reviews, and collections follow-up
- Provide guidance on accounting topics such as job costing, project costing, overhead allocation, and margin analysis
- Build and maintain structured Excel workbooks for reconciliations, schedules, and reporting automation
- Collaborate with operations, FP&A, and cross-functional stakeholders; engage professionally with clients and vendors
- Identify process improvements and strengthen internal controls; document procedures, workflows, and checklists
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, nested formulas; Power Query a plus)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; strong client-service mindset
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and the full monthly close process
- Experience with modern accounting/ERP systems (GL, AP/AR, reporting modules) preferred
Nice to Have
- CPA or progress toward certification
- Experience with cost accounting in product, project, or services environments
- Exposure to AP/AR automation, expense management tools, or basic BI/reporting
- Experience with QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or Sage Intacct; familiarity with tools such as Ramp or Bill.com
