Location: : Wantagh, NY(Onsite)

Required:

  • Experience as a Construction Inspector

Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities of inspector in ensuring the work is conducted safely, to specified standards, and in compliance with regulations.
  • Pre-Construction Review and Site Setup:
  • Review project documentation: Examine work permits, blueprints, design specifications, safety plans, and other relevant documents related to the sewer repair.
  • Verify contractor qualifications and licenses: Ensure the contractor and their personnel have the necessary licenses and certifications for sewer repair and excavation work.
  • Check site safety measures: Verify implementation of traffic control plans (if applicable), proper signage, excavation shoring, and overall site security.
  • Confirm utility locates: Ensure all underground utilities have been properly identified and marked before excavation begins.
  • Evaluate property layout: Understand the location of the sewer line on the property and any potential obstacles like trees or structures.
  • Inspection of Excavation and Pipe Installation:
  • Inspect excavation: Verify trenches are dug to the correct dimensions, depth, and slope, and that shoring, or trench boxes are used correctly to prevent cave-ins.
  • Check pipe materials: Ensure the correct type and size of sewer pipe (e.g., PVC, RCP) is being used as specified in the plans.
  • Inspect pipe installation: Verify pipe joints are properly aligned and sealed (e.g., using correct gaskets and lubricants), and that the pipe is laid with the correct grade for proper flow.
  • Document findings: Record observations, take photos of critical installation steps, and note any deviations from the plans.

Inspection of Repair Work (Traditional & Trenchless):

Traditional Repair:

  • Inspect damaged sections of pipe before removal.
  • Verify the removed pipe section matches the identified problem.
  • Inspect the installation of new pipe sections and couplings.
  • Trenchless Repair (Pipe Lining or Pipe Bursting):
  • Inspect the cleaning and preparation of the existing sewer line.
  • Verify the correct insertion and inflation/bursting process of the new lining/pipe.
  • Inspect the curing of the lining or successful installation of the new pipe.

Spot Repair:

  • Inspect localized repair areas for proper technique and materials.
  • Manhole Inspection: Inspect new or repaired manholes for proper size, depth, and sealing, ensuring secure lids and vent installation if required.
  • Post-Construction Testing and Backfilling:
  • Witness pipe testing: Observe hydrostatic pressure testing to check for leaks and ensure system integrity.
  • Inspect backfilling: Verify the correct backfill material (e.g., sand) is used, properly compacted in lifts to prevent settlement, and that warning tape is installed above the pipe.
  • Final surface restoration: Check that the excavation area is restored according to project specifications (e.g., repaving roads, landscaping).

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed inspection records: Document all inspections, including dates, times, work performed, findings, and corrective actions taken.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive reports: Report on the progress of the work, any issues encountered, and ensure the project complies with applicable codes and standards.
  • Update public sewer maps: If applicable, update maps to show new sewer installations or significant repairs.
  • Safety Monitoring and Compliance:
  • Monitor site safety practices: Ensure workers are wearing appropriate PPE and adhering to safety protocols for confined spaces, excavation, and equipment use.
  • Address safety concerns: Stop work if unsafe conditions are observed and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
