Position: Planning Engineer

Location: 100% Remote

Contract Length: 12+ Months

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and define plans for new OSP/ISP plant construction or modifications to existing facilities, including risers and inter-building cabling.
  • Monitor network capacity trends to identify concerns, recommend solutions, and communicate findings to leadership for future planning and optimization.
  • Define and implement market-level strategies that address both short-term capacity needs and long-term (3-5 year) product and technology transformations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Transport, Core Wave, Field Operations & Implementation, Custom Networks, and A&E.
  • Prepare plans and specifications, gather field data, and ensure practical, cost-effective project execution.
  • Provide cost data to support capital planning and budgeting.
  • Monitor and control project expenditures.
  • Oversee installation, construction, and testing of plant facilities.
  • Stay current with industry trends through journals, conferences, competitor analysis, and professional networking.
  • Operate independently with minimal supervision.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 4+ years of experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in telecommunications with in-depth knowledge of ISP/OSP equipment and design.
  • Proven ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong collaboration and influence skills across diverse teams and priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities including vision-setting, accountability, integrity, empathy, and mentoring.
  • Strong analytical and economic analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in geospatial tools such as ArcGIS/PRO, AutoCAD, and Google Earth.
  • High attention to detail and quality.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Professional and positive demeanor.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Business, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • Broad knowledge of network topologies across access, transport, and data networks.
  • 2-3 years of experience with cost-saving initiatives and capital budgeting.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification.
  • PMI Project Management certification.
  • Experience optimizing operational processes to meet financial and performance goals.
  • Engineering experience with a strong business/financial focus.
