About the Role

As a Software Engineer in this contingent role, you will contribute to the development and optimization of data-intensive applications and systems. You'll work on low to moderately complex engineering initiatives, identify opportunities for process improvements, and support the delivery of scalable, high-performance solutions. This role requires a strong foundation in big data technologies, cloud platforms, and distributed systems.
Responsibilities

• Contribute to software engineering projects of low to moderate complexity.
• Analyze technical challenges and recommend solutions using sound judgment and research.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support software development lifecycle activities.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance system performance and reliability.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to internal stakeholders and engineering partners.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in software engineering or equivalent (e.g., military service, education, or consulting).
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with Apache Spark, Hadoop, and big data ecosystems.
• Proficiency in Spark SQL, Streaming, and DataFrame/Dataset APIs.
• Experience with Spark query tuning and performance optimization.
• Strong understanding of Hadoop/cloud platforms, HDFS, ETL/ELT processes, and Unix shell scripting.
• 2+ years of experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
• Experience integrating SQL and NoSQL databases with Spark (e.g., MS SQL Server, MongoDB).
• 2+ years of experience working in Agile development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems (e.g., CAP theorem, replication, consistency models).
• 2+ years of experience developing microservices.
• Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS, Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), or Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF).
• 1+ years of experience with Apache Kafka or Confluent Enterprise.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
