About this opportunity:

This position is for a lead role, as part of an experienced, high powered team of technical experts support the z/OS mainframe environment running in the Somerset, New Jersey data center.

This data center provides infrastructure computing support for Ericsson OSS Classic products deployed at major US telecommunication carriers. The OSS Classic products provide critical functionality to these telecommunication Service Providers to manage their wireline business. A few key functionalities include inventory of facilities and equipment and their circuit assignments, monitoring of switch, equipment and facilities, inventory of outside plant facilities and addresses, integrated dispatch management and management and control of automated flow for service order provisioning.

The data center team develops, installs, customizes, and maintains core mainframe system software, such as operating systems and servers, to ensure their efficiency, stability, and compatibility with hardware and other applications. The team keeps the environment up to date with new, evolving versions of IBM and other third-party vendor software in order to maintain currency for our development and test internal customers.

What will you do

  • Lead mainframe hardware configuration (CPU/CEC, DASD, VTS/TAPE, HMC)
  • RACF strategy development and administration
  • Connect:Direct strategy development and administration
  • Manage hardware lifecycle planning, vendor coordination, and support activities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
  • Provide ongoing support for mainframe hardware, including monitoring and maintenance
  • Support LPARs, Parallel Sysplex, Coupling Facility environments
  • Performance monitoring and tuning as needed
  • Maintain and optimize mainframe infrastructure

The skills you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of extensive z/OS system programming experience in large, complex mainframe environments.
  • Deep expertise in z/OS architecture, internals, system programming, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Expertise in key z/OS subsystems (JES, IMS, Db2)
  • Mastery of z/OS system commands, utilities, and automation tools
  • Expertise in Connect:Direct
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts

Key Technical Skills:
  • In-depth experience with IBM z/OS operating system (z/OS 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 3.1)
  • z/OS Administration - user and security management (RACF), software installation and configuration, system monitoring, performance and capacity planning, problem resolution, and ability to ensure the stability and availability of the system

The salary range for this position is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, and the candidate's combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.

Short-Term Variable Compensation Plan: Your pay also includes the opportunity for an annual bonus. Actual bonus payouts are based on performance of the business against the unit's objectives, individual performance, and the individual bonus target. Certain eligibility and pro-ration rules apply.

Employees will receive company credits in an amount equal to the cost that Ericsson pays toward the cost of their medical and dental premiums for themselves and eligible covered dependents.

Your Financial Security

We invest in both your short and long-term financial wellbeing. The Ericsson US 401(k) Plan offers an automatic 3% company contribution and Ericsson matches $1 for every $1 you put into the 401(k) Plan on the first 3% of your eligible pay, plus 50 cents on every $1 on the next 2% of eligible pay. When you contribute at least 5% of eligible pay, you are receiving Ericsson's full matching contributions. Matching and company automatic contributions stop when your total eligible pay for the year reaches the IRS limits. Employees will also receive company credits in an amount equal to the cost of basic life insurance and basic accidental death and dismemberment coverage, as well as short-term and long-term disability coverage. Employees also have the option to participate in Ericsson's Stock Purchase Plan.

Your Time

Your work-life balance is important to us. New employees are provided a minimum of 15 days of accrued vacation, up to 3 personal days per year, 11 annual holidays, 8 hours of volunteer time, and 80 hours of sick time annually. Please note paid time off is pro-rated based on the employee's start date. Furthermore, Ericsson provides up to 16 weeks of paid maternity leave and 6 weeks of parental or adoption leave at 100% of pay.
